EOTW, or End of the World, closes a Hardcore Factions map. Claims are disabled, protections lift, and the server collapses into a free-for-all until the world is wiped and a new map begins at SOTW.
Why it matters: nothing carries over. Gear hoarded all season becomes worthless the moment the map resets, so EOTW is when factions spend everything. It produces the largest and least cautious fights of the map.
What changes
The exact rules vary by network, but generally:
- Claims stop protecting. Anyone can enter and break into any base, regardless of DTR.
- Bases get raided. Season-long stockpiles are opened and taken.
- Deathbans often shorten or lift. With nothing left to lose, some networks remove the ban entirely.
- Restrictions relax. Some servers disable class limits or other rules for the final hours.
How it plays
EOTW is the opposite of normal HCF. All season the deathban makes fighting cautious; at EOTW the cost of dying disappears, and so does the caution.
- Everything gets used. God apples, stockpiled potions, gear held in reserve since SOTW.
- Grudges get settled. Factions who avoided each other all map fight now, because there is no next week.
- Nobody defends. Holding a base is pointless when the world is about to be deleted.
- It gets recorded. Base tours, montages and EOTW footage are among the most-published HCF videos.
Winning EOTW carries prestige even though it changes nothing about the map result, and player records list it as an achievement in its own right.
Relationship to map results
EOTW ends the map but does not decide it. That is settled by the Citadel count, or Palace on networks that ran it, across the four events of the season. A faction can dominate EOTW and still have lost the map weeks earlier.
Recorded EOTW results appear in Map archive.
After EOTW
The world is wiped. Factions, claims, bases, gear and balances all reset, and the next map begins at SOTW, typically within days. Faction names do not persist, which is why long-running factions re-create themselves each season rather than continuing.
Maps generally ran around seven weeks on Kohi.
