A faction is a team in Hardcore Factions. Factions claim land, share a base, fight as a unit, and are the thing map results are recorded against. See Known factions for those documented on this wiki.
Creating and joining
A faction is created in-game with a command and a name, then invited members join it. Names are unique per map and reset with the map, which is why long-running factions re-create themselves each season rather than persisting.
Roster size caps vary by network. Larger factions claim more land and absorb more deaths, but are harder to organise and easier to send raidable.
Ranks
| Rank | Powers |
|---|---|
| Leader | Full control: disband, claim, kick anyone, set home. Sometimes called Owner. |
| Captain | Invite and kick members, claim land, access faction storage. Sometimes called Mod or Officer. |
| Member | Build in claims, use faction chat and /f home.
|
Terminology differs between networks. Kohi rosters typically use Leader and Captain, while some use Owner and Mod for the same two tiers. Larger factions often ran two leaders and five or more captains; see Nightmare and Amerinide for recorded examples.
DTR
Deaths Till Raidable is the faction's health bar. It starts at a value scaled to roster size, drops by one each time a member dies, and regenerates over time while the faction is out of combat.
When DTR goes negative the faction is raidable: its claims no longer block entry, and anyone can walk in and take everything. Raiding a base is not done by breaking in but by killing enough of its members that the protection drops.
This is why deaths matter twice over. Each one removes a player for hours and pushes the whole faction closer to losing its base.
Needs: DTR starting values and regeneration rates per network.

Allying
Cooperation between factions is banned or capped on most competitive rulesets, because unrestricted allying removes the contest from a map. See Rules and punishments.
